Essentials While Travelling Solo
Packing light isn't as important as packing intelligently; when travelling, you can find yourself in a scenario where you're stranded for whatever reason, and that's when you'll be happy of yourself for bringing these travel basics with you. Packing light isn't as vital as packing properly when travelling alone. Because travel hassles multiply when you're on your own, you should plan for any eventuality that may derail your journey. First and foremost, the items at the top of the priority list should provide comfort and convenience—and ideally serve more than one purpose, The next tier of the test? Make sure you can singlehandedly manage your luggage for a distance. Without anyone to split the baggage-toting time with, challenge yourself to see if you can walk down the block and back without a struggle. The key here is being able to keep your hands free, so you can focus on what's ahead and not what's weighing you down.
For me, the secret combo has been an ultra-light, rolling hard carry-on suitcase and a backpack, since it passes the international carry-on allowance.
Travel Gear Essentials for Solo Travellers: Worth the Weight to Carry
This is what I believe to be the necessary travel gear list.
You will, without a doubt, require your phone. Most of us use it as our primary camera. It can store digital guides, maps, translators, currency and measurement converters, music, movies, and books. It also functions as a calculator, flashlight, and GPS. It can function as a computer, make free international calls when connected to Wi-Fi, and provide current weather information. And, sure, it is a phone that allows you to communicate with friends and family. Apart from these functions, your phone also provides you with access to social media platforms which might be considered as an essential in the recent times. I am very active on social media, especially Instagram and Snapchat, I love to show my friends what i am upto when I'm travelling and want to share the experience with them by either sending them the pictures, uploading stories or posting pictures.
Beyond your phone, here's your travel gear list.
1) Universal Adapter:
Every country has different plug type and may vary with the ones available in your country, so it is always advisable to carry a universal adapter. With this, you can charge your devices anywhere in the world.A universal adapter is an all-in-one device that allows the majority of prong types to be plugged into the majority of socket types. This is the best type of device for frequent travellers, as you won't need to worry about changing out the prongs on your adapter. It's all there for you, all the time!
2) Extension Cord:
A universal adapter would undoubtedly fix your problem and assist in charging your smartphone, but what if you need to charge many devices at the same time? You only need to bring an extension cable with you. Take one with USB ports; with this, all you need to carry are the cables for your phone, camera, and other gadgets. An extension cord essentially is a bundle of insulated electrical wires with a plug on each end. Electrical current flowing through wires generates heat, and when too much current flows through a wire, it can overheat and melt the plastic insulation of the wires, causing short circuits and fires.
3) Power Bank:
A portable power bank is essential for those times when you don't have access to an electrical outlet or the appropriate charger. I personally recommend this Mi power bank, it comes at a reasonable price and charges the phone quickly so you can always have your phone charged up.
4) Back Pack:
You will undoubtedly want a robust carry-on backpack for your partner. Choose one with cushioned straps and inside so your shoulders don't hurt and sensitive stuff like your laptop are secure.6 Benefits Of Using A Backpack are as follows:
Stay Organised- a quality backpack will have enough room to carry your important essentials and enough pockets and compartments to help you stay organised throughout the day.
Comfortable- backpacks make carrying around everything from books to clothing and other essentials more comfortable. No matter what you are carrying in your backpack, or how much it weighs, it will be much easier and safer. With a backpack, the weight is more evenly distributed and your hands will be free to use your smartphone or hold your latte.
Safety- a backpack enables you to carry your belongings safely. Most backpacks are waterproof, lightweight and flexible, and they provide maximum protection for the products inside them. Using a backpack also means that your belongings are kept closer to your body, making it difficult for thieves to steal.
Can Be Carried For Long Periods Of Time- because backpacks use two soft, padded shoulder straps to distribute weight more evenly, they can be carried for long periods of time without experiencing discomfort.
Trendy- backpacks are trendy and it seems that a good quality backpack will never go out of style. In fact, there are several stylish backpacks of all types and sizes available on the market to choose from.
Convenient- backpacks are incredibly convenient as they give you access to your items easily and with very little effort. You can see what’s inside at a glance and everything is within easy reach.
5) Fanny Pack:
Fanny pack is the perfect accessory for people in the go. Why? Because a fanny pack is not considered as hand luggage on the plane! Fanny packs are TSA friendly and do not count as one of your carry-on bags. It also has an advantage over other bags of being spacious but completely handsfree. You do not have to hold it in your hands, and it does not drop down off your shoulder. Your travel necessities are securely fastened to your body while giving you easy access. Plus, you got yourself a free extra piece of hand luggage! Fanny pack is the perfect size to hold your phone, a passport, a boarding pass and a pen for filling out customs forms, with plenty of room to spare. So, put all your essentials in your fanny pack, wear it on board and pack your larger belongings in your carry on. A fanny pack will give you easy access to your traveling essentials, like a phone, wallet, and passport. Small and zippered pockets allow easy stowing of items like keys, headphone cases, and jewellery.
6) Emergency Medical Kit:
Only you know what you might need the most, so run through your itinerary and the worst-case scenarios. A customised medical kit will always help you in the time of need; stay ready for any emergency with a stock of painkillers, cold and flu pills, digestive pills, bandages, and more.
7) Ready to eat food:
If you are anything like me and lose track of time while travelling, ready to eat snacks are the way to go. While enjoying your adventures one can simply nibble on these snack and not wander around to find a restaurant.
8) Toiletaries:
Since hygiene is the key to good health, it is always recommended to bring your own toiletries because you never know the quality of toiletries that you may receive at your hotel/hostel. Carry moist tissues and deodorant, and if you live in a sunny region, have sunscreen lotion on hand. I personally pack a vanity bag in which i put all my essentials. I am very particular about my hair so for me my vanity bag has to include a hair brush, hair wax and a hair dryer. Apart from this a toothbrush, perfume that is strong enough to last an entire day, facewash, shower gel etc.
9) Umbrella/Raincoat:
Carrying an umbrella will protect you during heavy rain but make sure you carry one that can fit in your bag easily; raincoats are also a good alternative to umbrellas. A compact umbrella will easily fold and not take a lot of space and also protect you from the bad environment.
10) Travel Insurance:
Mishaps don't notify you before occurring so it is always best to buy travel insurance before you start your trip to keep you secure throughout.
- It protects you from losses when travelling: Loss of checked-in baggage, loss of passport, and other losses are covered by Travel Insurance. By offering coverage for these losses, it pays the traveller for any additional expenditures incurred as a result of these losses.
- It pays for medical expenses: One of the primary reasons for purchasing Travel Insurance is to cover the expenses of any accidents or medical procedures that may occur while travelling. The insurance company reimburses expenditures up to the maximum stated in the insurance policy in the event of an accident, dental treatment, or medical care. Some insurance firms have a network of hospitals in various nations where cashless treatment is available. The Travel Insurance business also offers assistance to guarantee that the covered individual has no troubles. This is one of the most significant Travel Insurance advantages.
- It provides coverage for modifications to the travel itinerary: The itinerary of the tour may be altered at any moment. It might be due to unanticipated circumstances, health issues, cancellation by the seller of the hotel or airline booking, or the financial insolvency of the travel agency or cruise line arranging the trip. A Travel Insurance coverage pays for these losses that may occur prior to the start of a journey. Travel insurance also protects against trip cancellation for any reason. This coverage may differ from one product to the next.
- It covers personal liability: Personal liability insurance protects you against damage caused by the insured to a third party. If you cause any harm to a third party while travelling, especially if you are travelling internationally, this section of Travel Insurance will recompense you. Third-party responsibility can apply to both property damage and personal injury. This personal liability coverage may differ from one product to the next.
